Upper Egypt is symbolised by the nenuphar and Lower Egypt by the papyrus and these two themes were the initial focus of the Egyptian collection. I had found them on a small piece ( about 2x2cms) of faience in the the Louvre and again on every statue of an Egyptian King as well as on the wall paintings of the tombs. I loved the French word : Nenuphar- the sound evoked Cleopatra-esque elegance. The pendants can be made with various stones.
