Qin and Han 18ct yellow gold quad necklace pendant with rub over set cushion facetted red, Mali and mandarin garnets
The unification of the two great Chinese dynasties :the Qin ( 221-207 BC) and the Han (206BC to 220 AD) inspired the juxtaposition of colours in the Qin and Han pendant. The key to this design and to Confucius that followed it, is a sense of colour. The cut of the stone is all important and changes the intensity of the colour so that the stone that can sit alongside it cannot be chosen until all stones are cut and placed side by side. Many of the pendants as well as rings and earrings are unique because nature does not serve up an endless supply of perfect repeats - it is more creative!
