Frida earring pendants (xs) in silver set with 8x6mm oval facetted vivid amethyst to go on Astrea hoops. The design echoes a basket rich with jewels. It was Lupe (Marin) who showed Frida (Kahlo) how to take lunch to Diego (Rivera) in a basket in the same way Mexican campesinos take their husband's lunch to them in the fields. From the Journey to Mexico.

Each earring pendant measures approximately 16mm tall.

*Astrea hoops sold separately.

Frida

Frida Kahlo, Diego River and their on-off love affair is legendary. Diego, like any good Mexican loved his food, so Frida would take him his lunch, beautifully prepared, everyday in a basket. I wanted to capture their story in a jewel, so I created a golden basket, with a handle across the top and I placed, carefully, set jewels inside: blue topaz, citrines and tourmalines and more.

Amethyst

Amethyst traditionally worn to instil a sober and serious mind, is the stone worn by bishops, the colour echoing their purple robes. Alluvial deposits in Brazil, Madagascar, Zambia and Uruguay are the source of most amethyst, the birthstone for February. Cassandra likes to juxtapose it with rubies and aquamarine or green African garnets.
