Pigne di Santo Stefano earrings in silver on silver Astrea hoops. Inspired by the pine cones decorating the balconies of Sicily (as a symbol of immortality) and made in Santo Stefano di Camastra near the great Norman cathedral of Cefalu. These pinecones in ceramic have been made by the Piscitello family since 1683. From the Journey to Sicily.
These earrings, including hoops, measure approximately 29mm tall.
These earrings are part of Cassandra's interchangeable collection. If you already own jewels from this collection and only wish to buy part of the earring shown, please contact the showroom on 0207 730 2202.
The ceramic pinecones that decorate each balcony on the island of Ortigia, symbolise the immortality that has carried this city through centuries of conquest. For my jewel, I took the outline of these pinecones and made it an open golden lattice, wherein I could occasionally set diamonds. As pendant or earrings, they remind me of balconies throughout the Emerald Isle of Sicily.
All Cassandra Goad Jewellery is designed and made in our workshops in London.
Ever in search of the unusual and rare, Cassandra travels the world to source beautiful gemstones, either in the rough or cut form.
The craftsman works as an artist recreating the design in metal. The jewel is then mounted, assayed, polished and set.
