Uxmal earcuffs in silver. Standing to the side of the Pyramid of the Magician, the decoration of the North wall of the Nunnery at Uxmal, the greatest of the Puuc style of Mayan architecture, is triumphant. A detail formed the basis of this design. Uxmal means ' thrice built' in Mayan language. From the Journey to Mexico.
Each earring measures approximately 12mm x 10mm.
In the courtyard near the pyramid of the Magician at Uxmal towers, the stone carvings in the frieze take the form of an undulating ribbon. With a little alchemy, I transformed the stone into a gold (or silver) cuff, hoping not to ruffle any of those priestly feathers up on high.
All Cassandra Goad Jewellery is designed and made in our workshops in London.
Ever in search of the unusual and rare, Cassandra travels the world to source beautiful gemstones, either in the rough or cut form.
The craftsman works as an artist recreating the design in metal. The jewel is then mounted, assayed, polished and set.
