Extra Small Frida necklace pendant in silver set with an oval-facetted blue topaz. The design echoes a basket rich with jewels. It was Lupe (Marin) who showed Frida (Kahlo) how to take lunch to Diego (Rivera) in a basket in the same way Mexican campesinos take their husband's lunch to them in the fields. From the Journey to Mexico.
This necklace pendant measures approximately 18mm tall x 15mm wide.
The pendant is shown here on a Catena Fine chain.
All Cassandra Goad pendants are sold without chains so that you may select the chain of your choice, both in style and length. If you would like to add a chain have a look at our selection here.
Frida Kahlo, Diego River and their on-off love affair is legendary. Diego, like any good Mexican loved his food, so Frida would take him his lunch, beautifully prepared, everyday in a basket. I wanted to capture their story in a jewel, so I created a golden basket, with a handle across the top and I placed, carefully, set jewels inside: blue topaz, citrines and tourmalines and more.
Topaz is an aluminium fluoro-hydroxyl-silicate that occurs in large crystals, mostly in Brazil. Glowing with the gift of healing, a blue topaz (the birthstone for November) is said to help your mind and body feel restored, a symbol of friendship, love, honesty, and fidelity. While a golden yellow topaz, permeated with healing warmth and life like the dazzling sun, will rejuvenate both your mind and body. Highly protective, the magic set within these stones is believed to make the wearer invisible to danger.
All Cassandra Goad Jewellery is designed and made in our workshops in London.
Ever in search of the unusual and rare, Cassandra travels the world to source beautiful gemstones, either in the rough or cut form.
The craftsman works as an artist recreating the design in metal. The jewel is then mounted, assayed, polished and set.
