Cassandra's Crosses

I flew to the other end of Europe where two continents meet. To a city that bridges the gap - Constantinople, the ancient city of Christendom.

Each morning I walked from Sogukcesme Sokak, a street in the Sultanahmet to the city's treasures that inspired the start of the Turkish collection.

Kariye Cross...

The Turkish Collection would not be complete without a cross, so I have designed a simple cross, Kariye.

I was inspired by the medieval Byzantine Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora (Kariye in Turkish). The interior is covered with some of the oldest and finest surviving Byzantine mosaics and frescoes.

Kuopio Cross...

Kuopio cross in 9ct yellow gold. it is inspired by the monastery known as 'New Valamo' in Finland founded in 1940 when the monks were forced to evacuate the old monastery in Russian Karelia. From Cassandra's journey to Scandinavia.

Valaam Cross...

Valaam cross in 9ct yellow gold. It was inspired by the cross pattern found in the back of the benches that came from the old Valaam monastery in Russian Karelia.

The Valaam monastry was founded in XIV century by St Sergius and St Herman.
