Vibrant Brazil

If you were born and bred in Rio de Janeiro, you are a Carioca. This cuff with its abacus of pearls moving up and down on the bars tells of the original way of counting in Rio by the traders and in the markets, so I called it Carioca.

I love to wear one on each wrist, in summer on tanned arms or in winter as a focus with a polo neck with jeans. How would you wear yours?

Beatriz Carnaval...

Every morning in Rio I had breakfast with the Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes. Or to be more precise I had breakfast with one of her paintings. I looked out to the beach or up to her painting: a cacophony of whirls, circles and fronds of every colour, swirling inside each other.

For me her whirls of colour took me straight back to my garden, to the dahlias growing in all colours, clashing orange with pink, yellows, reds and purples. I love these flowers and here was my chance to create a jewel inspired by them. I made petal outlines in marquises of gold, set diamonds into the circles and hung circles off the circles with a movement that only the influence of Brazil could suggest. They may just be jewels but they have a sense of samba, you just need the party…

Estrela do Mar...

Beach life is Brazil. Most of a Brazilian's life is spent at the beach, at least the best days of it, and so I made my star fish (Estrela do Mar in Portuguese) earrings to remind me of this. Gold, silver and sparkling with diamonds, small and a little larger; whatever takes your fancy…

Ana Carolina...

Brazil is about colour, rhythm and fun. Ana Carolina is a colourful ring design that says all of this with its facetted centre stone surrounded by facetted ovals, smaller stones and diamonds. I love the ring set with a peridot, blue topaz and citrine with diamonds. Design your own with your favourite colours and we can ask the workshop to make it!
