Where to stay in Paris

Finding the perfect hotel in Paris can be a daunting task. With an overwhelming quantity of choice, it can be hard to find a hotel that works for you. Throughout the years, I have stayed in countless hotels in Paris, from the luxury establishments to up-and-coming eccentric boutique hotels.

Where you stay in Paris defines your experience of the city. Staying in the 1st arrondissement shows a wildly different version of Paris than a hotel in Le Marais will. Paris's arrondissements each give a unique experience of the city and will shape your experience of the famed city. So, here are some of my favourites:

1, Place Vendôme

Located in the famed Place Vendôme, the epicentre of jewellery in the city, 1, Place Vendôme is the first hotel from the fine jewellery and watchmaker Chopard. The hotel consists of fourteen rooms and suites and one apartment. Each room is designed around a jewel. My favourite stay has been in the Emeraude Suite. The suite is modelled on a typical Parisian apartment and the light and openness of the rooms blends perfectly with the calming green accents. This hotel oozes luxury and a stay here is perfect for those looking for a haven from the endless activity of the city. When I stay here, I start of my morning with a walk around Jardin des Tuileries, a stone's throw away from the hotel.

Maison Proust, 26 Rue de Picardie

As you walk into Maison Proust you are immediately immersed in the wonders of Belle Epoque Paris. The hotel evokes the bourgeois salons that Marcel Proust would have frequented. The Hotel even boasts an impressive art collection of Belle Epoque art including original art from Jacques-Emile Blanche and Jean Béraud. Located in the fashionable Le Marais district, it is surrounded by independent shops, trendy restaurants and concept stores. I highly recommend a visit to my favourite boutique Merci for quaint homeware finds and a trip to Officine Universelle Buly for the most divine soaps and perfumes.

Saint James Paris, 5 Place du Chancelier Adenauer

Nothing says France like a château and the Saint James Hotel gives you the dreamy experience of staying in a château while still being in proximity of the city centre. A former private house located close to the Arc de Triomphe, Saint James is the perfect hotel for those who want to live out their Marie-Antoinette fantasy. A charming blend of romantic neoclassical and modern finishes, this hotel is the perfect refuge after a day in the bustle of the city. Not to mention their excellent restaurant which is the perfect conclusion to a busy day.

Le Grand Mazarin, 17 Rue de la Verrerie

There is nothing quite like experiencing a city as a local and Le Grand Mazarin ensures each of its guest gets access to the city away from the tourist hotspots. With a concierge dedicated to showcasing Paris' secret offerings, Le Grand Mazarin promises a unique stay. The hotel has newly opened in Le Marais district ensuring you are at the epicentre of modern Paris. The hotel interiors are inspired on Grand Siècle classicism mixed with vibrant colours and quirky finishing touches. The crowning jewel of this hotel, however, is their breath-taking underground swimming pool. A mesmerising green striped pool is cocooned by a fresco by Jacques Merle that adorns the ceiling and walls of the space. If you are looking for a hotel that lets you soak up the creativity and beauty of the city look no further than Le Grand Mazarin.
