A pair of 9ct yellow gold Mashrabiya Trellis hoop clip earrings set with pearls and gold beads. From the mashrabiya trellises carved in wood found in windows and gardens all over Morocco. From the Journey to Morocco.
Each earring measures approximately 23mm tall.
The Islamic love of geometry is echoed in the Mashrabiya screens created on their travels wherever they went. Geometry builds on simple shapes of circles, squares and rectangles turning them into puzzling patterns. And through the spaces in between, it is possible to create endlessly varying vistas for the eye to wonder at.
As I walked from palace to palace around Morocco, the trellis pattern was repeated in each one: different and yet the same. I made gold sections of the squares and created earrings and rings set with diamonds, turquoises and lapis lazuli.
All Cassandra Goad Jewellery is designed and made in our workshops in London.
Ever in search of the unusual and rare, Cassandra travels the world to source beautiful gemstones, either in the rough or cut form.
The craftsman works as an artist recreating the design in metal. The jewel is then mounted, assayed, polished and set.
