How to Layer Necklaces
A Guide to Styling Fine Jewellery
Layering necklaces is one of the simplest ways to create a look that feels personal, considered and effortlessly elegant. Whether you are styling a cherished pendant or building a collection over time, the key to successful necklace layering lies in balance: varying lengths, mixing textures and allowing each jewel space to shine.
For personal guidance, our boutique team is always happy to help you choose the right stack for you.
Necklaces
At Cassandra Goad, necklaces are designed as ready-to-wear foundations for layering or everyday styling. They can be worn alone for a refined look or used as the starting point of a more personal stack.

For a softer, everyday feel, choose shorter necklace styles such as Pelota, Lucia or Serena, which sit at a choker length of around 16". For something more defined, statement designs like the Talya 5 or Calypso Torque necklace with pendant create a stronger visual base.

Chain Length
Chain length is what makes layering feel effortless rather than crowded. Think of it as spacing your look so each jewel has room to stand out.

Our most popular lengths are 16" and 18", designed to sit neatly at the collarbone and just below. Adjustable options like 18"– 16" or 20"– 18" make layering even easier.
For a slightly longer silhouette, 20", 22", 24" and 30" chains are ideal for creating depth and movement.
16" – close, delicate, slightly higher on the neck
18" – everyday classic and our most versatile length
20"+ – longer layers that add flow and contrast
A well-layered look usually combines at least two different lengths so each jewel can be clearly seen.

Pendants
Begin your layered look with one defining jewel. This should be the most visually striking or meaningful element, setting the tone for everything that follows.

At Cassandra Goad, all pendants are designed to stand alone, which makes them ideal as the centre of a stack.
Symbolic pendants: Meaningful jewels in every shape and form, designed to keep what matters most close to your heart. Versatile and easy to layer, they can be worn with almost any pendant style or grouped together to create a deeply personal stack.
Saints | Quotes | Crosses | Medallions | Alice letters
Smaller pendants: Delicate designs that sit beautifully on shorter chains, creating harmony and balance when layered with larger pendants below.
Talya | Mashrabiya Trellis | Klover | Icarus
Statement pendants: Bold, sculptural jewels that create a focal point within a stack, pairing effortlessly with simpler necklaces and smaller pendants above.
Helios | Roi Soleil | Epidavros | Compass

Mixing Metals

Gone are the days of choosing between gold or silver. Mixing metals can add depth and character to a layered look, particularly when the stack is united by a common theme, pendant style or chain shape.
How to wear: Start with one dominant metal, then introduce a second through a pendant or chain. For a balanced look, repeat the secondary metal elsewhere in your jewellery, whether through earrings, rings or bracelets.
The key is to make the combination feel intentional rather than accidental. When united by meaningful pendants, gemstones or similar proportions, mixed metals create a look that feels collected over time.
