Unveiling a Hidden Gem: Architectural Details as Bracelet Inspiration

Carved and curled, twisted and textured, woven and weathered... Door handles, omnipresent in our daily lives, serve as our gateway to homes, buildings, and even rooms. Beyond their obvious function, they tell stories, reflect cultures, and hold clues to the past. Yet, how often do we pause to consider their intricate designs and histories?

I often ask myself why the part of the building that we physically connect with most is so overlooked? In the grand scheme of architectural history, door handles are hardly mentioned, if at all. Instead, we opt to take in the grandeur of the entire building. However, for me, they have always been a source of fascination and inspiration.

As I walk down the streets of different cities, I can't help but notice these understated ornaments, each with their own unique charm. Even if I sometimes realise further along that I have overlooked a true gem, I find it is etched into my memory to sketch at a later point. I might also return to capture it as a photograph to add to my collection.

"Why is the part of the building we physically connect with most so overlooked?"

Naturally the streets of Paris are a haven for these hidden gems. It was outside the tall wooden doors of 12, Avenue des Pyramides in Paris where I found inspiration for my Avenue des Pyramides design. I designed it many years ago, but it's pleasing to bring it back into La Belle France collection where it feels quite at home.

Most who step onto Place des Pyramides from the Avenue will only notice the Joan of Arc statue. But, for me it was the two patterned boxes with floral motifs at either end of the polished brass bar that I saw on the great wooden courtyard door the first time which had me transfixed. For my design I transposed what I saw in these handles into gold boxes, joining them with simple oval links and sometimes setting small colourful gemstones on the side to create a beautiful bracelet, which you can multiply to form a longer chain.

"So, the next time you reach for a door handle, take a moment to appreciate its beauty and significance—you might just find a world of inspiration in your grasp."
