Postcards from Mykonos
Nicknamed the Windy Isle, Mykonos is a beloved destination for sun, good food and tranquil scenery. While some areas of the island have become focused on nightlife, the island still boasts incredible beaches, delicious local food and idyllic views. Discover Cassandra’s top picks for anyone thinking of giving the island a visit.
Where to eat

Cassandra fell in love with Kiki’s Taverna, a small family-run restaurant with no electricity but with the most delicious selection of home-made salads and barbequed seafood. Overlooking the hypnotic waters of Lover’s Cove beach in the north of the island, KiKi’s takes no reservations, but the friendly owner continually serves those waiting rosé while chatting away.
Best beaches

On Mykonos you are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. When visiting, Cassandra spent many a day driving down dirt tracks to empty beaches, trying to find the best spots. Some of her favourites are Loulou beach, Agios Sostis and, of course, Kapari beach to watch the sunset. Don’t forget to combine the trip to Kiki’s Taverna with a swim at Lover’s Cove beach.
Where to stay

Cassandra’s favourite way to travel is with friends, and often stays with friends she has made on her travels to experience the place through a local’s eye. Cassandra always suggests staying in local B&B’s where possible, so you can immerse yourself in the local ways.
What to visit:

Mykonos old town is beautiful but can quickly become overrun by day trippers from the big cruise ships that pass by. Most hotel concierges will be able to let you know the days with the largest number of cruises passing so you can plan around them. Cassandra suggests an early start to see the old town uninterrupted. Afterwards reward yourself with brunch with a view of the ocean at Kastro’s restaurant where you can sit on the balcony overlooking the sea.

The island of Mykonos is dotted with small churches in varying shapes and sizes. Each one unique and often dedicated to a specific person and Cassandra enjoyed spending a day driving between various churches and exploring those which caught her eye. Cassandra recommends taking a drive through the island, stopping off at any churches which catch your eye and exploring their individual charm.

Take a day trip to Delos to immerse yourself in an ancient Greek city. The birthplace of Apollo, God of the sun, Delos is home to incredible ancient Greek ruins including temples, an amphitheatre and the iconic Terrace of the Lions statues. A short ferry ride from Mykonos old town, Delos is the perfect day excursion. Cassandra recommends avoiding the middle of the day as the island has limited shade and an evening trip also ensures you get a beautifully scenic sunset!
