The VibrantVision of Argiris Ser

Argiris Saraslanidis, known as Argiris Ser, is a transformative force in Greece’s urban and street art scene.

A pioneer in the country’s public art movement, Ser’s journey into artistic expression began in 1993 with graffiti. Over the years, his artistic style has evolved, blending his life experiences with his creative practice, resulting in a journey into the depths of colours, shapes, and forms.

Now based on the island of Corfu, Ser’s work is defined by its minimalistic yet striking use of form, paired with a vivid and often psychedelic colour palette. His murals act as visual mosaics, blending the simplicity of a painter’s colour wheel with vibrant hues, creating works that craft contradictions and illusions. The immersive nature of his work invites the viewer to explore and question their own perception and interpretation of the visual experience.

Ser’s murals engage with the viewer on a deeper level, challenging traditional forms and techniques. His creations create an enchanting dynamic between structure and freedom, offering the viewer a sense of fluidity and movement. The juxtaposition of geometric shapes and organic patterns reflects the contrasts of modern Greek life, ancient history coexisting with contemporary artistic expression.

While rooted in the culture of graffiti and street art, Ser’s artistic vision is far from confined to urban spaces. His work transcends typical boundaries, evoking the feeling of timelessness that echoes the country’s rich heritage. Much like Greece itself, Ser’s murals exist at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, with every piece revealing a new layer of meaning each time it is viewed.

Ser’s art is more than just a visual experience; it is an invitation to explore the intricacies of space, light, and colour. His approach not only questions artistic conventions but also mirrors the complexity of Greece’s cultural identity, a blend of the ancient and the contemporary, constantly evolving while remaining rooted in its storied past.

Some notable commissions include work for the United Nations, Visa, Converse, and Reebok, along with numerous exhibitions worldwide.
