The Iliad Comes to the Gardens at Vann
There is something especially moving about encountering ancient stories in the open air. As daylight softens over the gardens at Vann, Troubadour Stageworks returns this July with a haunting new retelling of The Iliad, performed beneath the summer sky in one of the South East’s most beautiful Arts and Crafts settings.
Following last year’s performance of The Odyssey, this retelling continues Odysseus’ story after his return home. Peace has been restored, yet the realities of war remain. Drawing from The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Aeneid and Jason and the Golden Fleece, the production explores themes of homecoming, memory and reconciliation through live storytelling and music.
Audiences are invited to arrive early, walk through the gardens and picnic before the performance begins, making the day feel as much about the setting as the play itself.
Performances will take place on Saturday 11th July at 1pm and 6pm, with the show going ahead whatever the weather. Visitors are encouraged to bring something to sit on and settle in for an afternoon or evening of theatre in the Surrey countryside. Tickets can be purchased on the Troubadour Stageworks official website.
