Spend a Summer with Homer...in London
This July, Dr Antony Makrinos, will once again lead the Summer School in Homer at University College London. Now in its twelfth year, the course has welcomed more than 1,200 students from around the world and continues to offer a rare opportunity to explore Homer’s world through both language and literature.

Running from Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August 2025, the Summer School offers five days of intensive teaching, with classes held daily from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. These are followed by afternoon lectures and special events, including a visit to the British Library, where students will view rare Homeric manuscripts and explore the legacy of epic poetry across centuries of scholarship.
The programme is non-residential. Bursaries and travel grants may be available for eligible applicants. Students are placed in small groups of 15 to 20, according to experience level, whether beginner, intermediate or advanced. The teaching is focused and engaging, led by a team of outstanding scholars.
Participants can select courses from the following options:
• Greek for Beginners
• Intermediate Greek
• Advanced Greek
• Latin for Beginners
• Homer in Translation
• Gender and Homer
• Ancient Philosophy and Homer
